Belly Dancing

Alta Magedans arranged a belly dancing show yesterday on May 1st., and I was there to photograph it.

Pentax K-5, Samyang 85 mm 1:1.4 Aspherical IF Multi-Coated

All the pictures from the show can be seen in the gallery of the local news paper here in Alta, Altaposten.

I'm using an 85mm f/1.4 from Samyang here which is all manual focus. It's a great lens, but it can be hard to find proper focus when things move too face, so I'm curious to how it would have been doing this with the K-01 which has focus peaking so you're more certain about where focus really is.

Also, it would have been interesting to try the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 for this kind of photography as it should be focusing fast enough for it.

Last weekend I drove to Nordreisa to photography the snowmobilecross even that was held there. It was two days with lots of sun and lots of snowmobiles making a lot of beautiful noise!

Finnmarksløpet 2012 Begins

Today was the start of Finnmarksløpet 500 km and 1000 km in Alta city center, City (yes, the center is called City :P). I won't be driving after the 1000 km as I had planned due to financial reasons, but I'll be photographing and recording some video of what happens here in Alta and maybe the closest check points as well.

The Borealis Festival of 2012 Starts

I got there a bit late, so I didn't get a good position to photograph and get the pictures I wanted, but I got some pictures still :)

Pentax K-5, SMC Pentax-A 50 mm 1:1.4, SMC Pentax-FA* 24 mm 1:2.0 AL (IF), Samyang 85 mm 1:1.4 Aspherical IF Multi-Coated

And tomorrow Finnmarksløpet 2012 starts. I won't be able to follow the 1000 km as I planned, but I might go to some of the closest stops, we'll see. In any case I'll get the start of both 500 and 1000 km tomorrow, which is right here in Alta, and the restart for the 1000 km at Sorrisniva just outside of Alta. It will be fun!

Nokia Leaps Ahead

This isn't the usual kind of stuff I post here. But it's such a big leap forward, and I really want this item, so I thought I'd write up a little article about it. The article is a bit long, but there is a lot to say.

Nokia has announced a new phone. A phone with camera technology they have been working on for about five years it seems.

It's the Nokia 808 PureView, the successor of the Nokia N8 (which the N9 isn't).

Arctic Sea Fog (a.k.a. sea smoke)

It's very cold here these days. Today it's -24 Celcius and a slight breeze. So there is plenty of sea smoke in Altafjorden now, so I had to try and capture it.

I also recorded a short video from today:

A bit more on the Pentax K-01

Some Pentax users in Singapore has been lucky enough to have used a pre-production model of the K-01, and they're liking what they see: Latest Photos of the K-01 from Pentax Singapore User Group

And Mark Roberts have written some thoughts he has about the camera and who the target demographic of the Pentax K-01 is in his blog entry Pentax Launches K-01 Mirrorless Camera, World Misses the Point. I think he has a good point here. But I also think people will warm up to it.

The Sun is Coming

The sun is closing in on where I live now. I think it hits my house some time during February, and it will be beautiful. It was glowing beautifully on a mountainside today with a nice blue color in the clouds above it. The sun has been gone for a couple ofmonths until a few days ago, and it's very nice getting it back now.

The Pentax K-01 Hands-On Video

First, here is a website that lets you compare the size of the camera vs. other cameras. The link goes directly to a comparison of the K-01 vs. the K-5: CameraSize.com: Pentax K-5 vs Pentax K-01.

They do say that the sensor is similar tot he K-5, but not the same. The Pentax Forums say in their announcement that it is the same, so I'm not sure which is correct here, but I'm leaning towards the Pentax Forums on this one.

Here is a video by the Canadian The Camera Store:

Here is also a search for "Pentax K-01" on YouTube so you can see more videos about the camera as they are added to YouTube: Pentax K-01
